"We have lost our voice."
Kalas dies at 73; was voice for Phils, NFL Films

There is no voice I associate more with baseball than Harry Kalas. Countless "Outta here! Home run!" calls, and two World Series wins proclaimed over the airwaves. He's part of the fabric of this town. He'll be sorely missed, as was his broadcast partner (and Phillies legend) Richie Ashburn many years ago.
My condolences to his loved ones, and those that loved him (which is practically all of Philadelphia). |

So the Phillies win Game 3 of the World Series at around 2AM this morning. As part of their defensive strategy after a wild pitch that sent the winning run to 3rd base, the Rays intentionally walked 2 batters and loaded up the bases, then set up with 5 infielders and 2 outfielders playing shallow to protect against a bunt or grounder. It didn't work out too well.
After the Phillies won, someone from Fox Sports was interviewing the Phillies' Ryan Howard, and asked him if he'd every seen anything like that before. Best response ever:
"I don't know. It looked like they were about to blitz." |

Bottom of the 5th, with the Phillies up by 5. Hopefully only 4 innings from the World Series! :) |
